Aliza Bulow

Aliza Bulow
She is the founder and director of Core, an organization that connects Jewish women and strengthens Jewish homes and communities. In addition, she travels regularly to offer guidance, leadership training and strategic planning for rabbinic couples and Jewish organizations throughout the continent.
In between travels, Aliza teaches Jewish philosophy and it’s practical applications in her home city of Denver, Colorado. A Jewish Educator for over thirty years, Aliza lectures both locally and internationally on a wide array of Jewish subjects.
Born to activist parents in the 1960’s, Aliza’s community building began early as her upbringing was intensely impacted by her parents’ deep commitment to the civil rights movement. Her own activism took root during her early high school years in the fight for freedom for Soviet Jews. Her passion for Judaism and the Jewish people then took her to Israel where she studied for 2 years at Michlelet Bruria and Hebrew University.
With a growing desire to build and contribute, Aliza explored various avenues to serve the State of Israel and finally chose to enlist in the Israeli Defense Forces from 1982-1984, during the first Lebanon war. She served in the Nachal Unit with a religious group that was dedicated to building communities in the Land of Israel.
Though her dream was to stay in Israel, her soul mate was in law school in America. She married Ephraim Bulow after he graduated, and then they traveled to Russia to visit refusniks before setting up their own home in Long Beach, NY.
Aliza completed her degree in Hebrew and Jewish Social Studies at Hunter College on the very day that their first child was born. Six children, two foster children, a bouquet of grandchildren, and lots and lots of smiles, sorrows and stories later, the Bulows are happily empty nested.
Now able to invest more effectively and travel more broadly, Aliza’s passion continues to grow as she helps individuals, organizations and the Jewish community see further, dig deeper, reach higher and radiate its light.

Sharni Brodesky

Sharni Brodesky
Sharni runs seminars and group interventions, as well as one to one psychotherapy. She works with various centers lecturing on Culture Shock and the Stages of Aliyah adjustment, as well as running a course for parents called Rewiring Children For Success.
Sharni offers a framework to help people cope, process and integrate effects of traumatic experiences, to bring about an enhanced quality of life and lasting change.
Good hearts are always appreciated, appereance is only the wellcome of relations, but behaviours are the keys of love.
Hi Chana, I just listened to your interview with Sharni and I have a few questions.
1) You mentioned that it’s ok to feel frustrated… in certain situations but that should not have to lead to anger. Can you draw a clear line btwn feeling “frustrated” and feeling “angry”?
2) How do we know when we are acting out of a need to “fix” things as opposed to out of the desire to be good/nice/kind?
Great questions! Thank you for sharing them!
1 – feeling frustrated is a feeling within ourselves. We may feel bothered or upset by the situation or the circumstances. Anger is more directed outwards. It’s when we would then blame someone for the situation.
Often, when we are in a difficult situation, we look to blame. Our brains use anger to help us feel better.
Being able to differentiate between these two feelings – between “this situation sucks!” and “it’s [someone]’s fault” can be life changing not just for our relationships, but for our own sense of inner strength and clarity.
2 – The question I suggest asking yourself is, do I WANT to do this? or am I scared to not do it?
Am I doing it out of love and desire…or out of fear of how the other person will react if I don’t do it?
Thank you for clarifying. However I am still stuck on this point. Many times I stretch myself for certain other people because I feel like I “have to” (b/c they’ll be upset otherwise, or they’ll miss out otherwise etc.) but at the same time, doing for them whatever it is I am doing, really is the right thing to do. So could it be that sometimes the feeling that ‘I must do it’ or ‘I better do it’, keeps me from NOT doing it? Of course it’s better to operate out of love and desire, but if we don’t always have that desire, (especially when dealing with difficult ppl), doesn’t the fear factor propel us forward a bit?
The fear of upsetting others is one many women struggle with. It can propel us forward…and it can create feeling of resentment and frustration. I invite you (and any woman struggling) to book a time for us to discuss this more in depth together. https://live.vcita.com/site/chanadeutsch/online-scheduling?service=bf5axnw1ziaghtpl
Great questions!
1 – Anger is directed at others, while frustration is a feeling we deal with only internally.
2 – Best test is to ask yourself, am I doing it out of a desire or out of a fear?
I got to hear the rest of the Day 6 VIP training. It felt so wonderful to be able to daven together with fellow Jewish women all over the world, for Israel. Thank you for all you do. May HaShem continue to bless you in all that you do and may He bless and keep Israel safe!
Amen! Thank you for your warm words.
I am so happy to hear you were able to catch up and that it meant so much to you.
Amen! and you’re welcome!
Thank you for davening together with us!
Dear Chana,
Thank you for doing this wonderful series. I am travelling a lot and listen to the recordings wherever I can. I have a notebook filling with great advice from these amazing ladies; this series has opened up for me new ideas and new ways.
Many thanks for opening the door to the help and support that is available.
You’re so welcome!
I am so happy to hear you are learning so much!
I’m not being able to enter my email for Fally Klein’s mailing list… the link doesn’t work. Can you please send me a new link or her email?

Thank you Chana for all the work, time, and energy you invested in putting together all these amazing and inspiring interviews! I love the diversity, there’s so much to learn from each angle. And it amazes me again and again to see how they’re all based on the same core principals.
Is it possible to add the email address of each speaker under their name? Some words can be spelled in diff ways and I want to make sure I’m sending the email to the right person.
Thank you so much!
You’re welcome Toby!
That is one of my favorite aspects of this series every year!

I will keep in mind this suggestion for future series. Thank you!
I really learned a lot from Miriam Davidson’s interview and now I have joined her course and am learning things that I never dreamed of before and teaches a new way of life.
That was the last one that I heard and I would love to be able to hear the interviews after hers. I simply do not have the private time to be able to hear interviews so quickly.
Thank you Chana for putting together all these interviews.
You’re welcome! I am so happy to hear that you are learning so much!
I hope you now can use the All-Access period to catch up and continue the journey!
Hi Chana! I can’t thank you enough for this amazing interview series! I’m loving it!…Now a question for you please! You mentioned in Rena Reisers interview that there is always something that causes you to shift out of the thing we were feeling so good about. Can you please explain that a bit more?
Good question!
Even good feelings can be hard for us to feel – they can feel too vulnerable and they can bring up fears and limiting beliefs. Many women believe that life is “supposed to” be a struggle – so feeling that things are good, create fears of the good things chas v’shalom going away, or a fear that something bad will now chas v’shalom have to happen.
Also, in movies and books, the drama (ie, what makes it interesting) happens after first painting a happy and positive note. That’s what creates the dissonance and tension that the characters then work to resolve. So when we feel good, our brain goes, “uh oh! what’s coming now?!”
Sometimes we may not feel worth or deserving of the good, so we push it away.
And, often the good is caused by something we did to create it mindfully. But once it’s good, we may not only sigh in relief, but think that now we can “go back to normal” and we stop doing what got us there in the first place. This is the benefit of having ongoing support in creating the good, so that you don’t forget or lose touch with what helped you get there.
Hi, can I please get Sara Blaus email address? I missed it. Thank you !
